Every Tuesday, a small delivery robot travels along Green Street. It has six wheels, a bright orange flag and a locked box. The robot carries food shopping from a local supermarket to homes nearby. It moves slowly and uses cameras to see the pavement.
Mrs Green was the first person on the street to try it. She ordered milk, bread and fruit in an app. When the robot arrived, the app sent her a code. She typed the code on the robot, and the lid opened. Her shopping was safe inside.
At first, some neighbours were worried. They thought the robot might block the pavement. The company now asks it to stop at the side when people need more space. A remote operator can also help if the robot cannot cross a busy road.
Children enjoy seeing the robot, but they must not touch or follow it. Mrs Green likes the service because heavy bags are difficult for her to carry. She still visits the supermarket when she wants to choose fresh vegetables herself. The robot is useful, but it has not replaced the shop.
