Last Saturday, my sister and I visited a nearby city. The city centre was closed to cars for the whole day. We left our car at a park-and-ride area outside the centre and took a free electric bus. The journey took about fifteen minutes.
The streets felt very different without traffic. Children rode bicycles, people sat at café tables, and a band played near the library. We could hear conversations and music instead of car engines. My sister said the air also felt cleaner.
At eleven o’clock, we joined a short walking tour. Our guide showed us an old market, a new cycle lane and a square with more trees. For lunch, we bought food from a street stall and sat on a bench.
In the afternoon, rain started, so we went inside the city museum. We returned to the car at five. I liked the quiet streets, but some shop owners were worried because customers could not park nearby. The city will ask visitors and local businesses what they thought before it plans another car-free day.
