Hi, I’m Maya. Yesterday I left home without any cash, but I still bought everything I needed. First, I took the bus to work. I touched my bank card on the small reader next to the driver. The machine made a sound, and my journey was paid for. It was quick and easy.
At lunchtime, I went to a small café with my colleague Sam. I ordered soup and bread. The bill was nine pounds. This time, I paid with my phone. I opened my digital wallet and held the phone near the card machine. Sam used coins because his phone had no battery.
After work, I stopped at a supermarket. My shopping cost more than usual, so the machine asked for my PIN. I checked the price before I entered the four numbers. Later, my banking app sent me a message with a list of the day’s payments.
Contactless payment is useful, but I still carry a little cash. Some market stalls do not take cards, and a phone can lose power. I also check every payment in my app. That helps me notice a mistake quickly.
